Goal
A successful academic career is closely tied to the ability to develop a distinct and recognizable research profile. This workshop provides participants with support in planning their academic careers more strategically.
Objective
Especially during transitional phases in their academic careers, researchers often feel the need to reflect on their position and competencies while weighing various career and funding options.
Understanding one's own strengths and interests, along with knowledge of career and research funding programs, is crucial for making informed decisions about the next steps in career development. Moreover, potential employers and funders increasingly require well-defined descriptions of applicants' career and research profiles to assess their suitability for specific institutions or programs.
This course aims to help researchers develop their own research brand and reflect on their long-term career trajectories. On the second day of the course, individual coaching sessions will be offered to further support participants in refining their academic careers. These sessions provide an external perspective and guidance on developing a personalized research funding strategy.
Modules
1. Individual Assessment & Career Prospection: Analysis of Current Status and Goals
This module focuses on participants’ self-reflection regarding their current career status and their short-, medium-, and long-term career goals.
2. Overview of the German and European Academic Systems & Research Funding Opportunities
This module provides an overview of the academic landscape, including key developments and insights into selected funding programs.
3. My Current Research Profile: Individual Analysis
Participants identify their specific research topics and the underlying "common thread" in their academic careers thus far.
4. My Future Research Profile: Strategic Planning and Qualified Feedback
This module explores participants’ future research interests and potential funding opportunities to advance their academic careers.
5. Day 2: Individual Coaching Sessions (40 minutes each)
On the second day, individual coaching sessions will be offered to provide tailored feedback on career development and research funding strategies.
The trainer: Dr. Beate Scholz
Beate Scholz is founder and managing partner of Scholz CTC GmbH (www.scholz-ctc.com). She has more than 20 years of experience in science management and strategy development and works nationally and internationally as a strategy consultant, trainer, coach and consultant in universities, research institutions and science organisations. In addition, she regularly publishes international studies on the situation of young scientists. Ms. Scholz holds a doctorate in modern Italian history from the University of Trier, and also holds a master‘s degree in history, political science and economics.
