Call for Abstracts

The Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) invites contributions for the HMC Conference 2026, taking place 28–30 April 2026 in Heidelberg, Germany. The conference provides a forum to present and discuss innovations, applications, and success stories demonstrating the impact of metadata in practicefrom technical infrastructures to domain-specific implementations.

 

We welcome contributions in the following presentation formats:

  • TALKshort talks (~10 +2 min).
    Ideal for sharing new findings, solutions, or conceptual advances with broad relevance.

  • POSTER & PITCHA0 poster display + 1 min oral pitch in plenary
    Perfect for discussing results and ideas in interactive 1:1 exchange. Advertise your poster in the plenary pitch session.

  • DEMO POSTER & PITCHPoster with additional interactive session.
    At your poster (see above) you may optionally request demo equipment (standing table, power outlet, Wi-Fi) to showcase functional tools, services, or prototypes demonstrating real-world metadata applications at your poster.

 


Submissions should address one or more of the HMC Conference 2026 track topics

All submitted abstracts are reviewed by the Scientific Program Commitee. Accepted abstracts will be published in the conference proceeding of the HMC Conference 2026.

Submissions are accepted via this conference website only. On-site participation is required for all presenters.

Abstract Submission Guidelines


General Requirements

  • Abstracts must be written in English and should not exceed at total of 300 words. One supporting image may be attached in the submission.

  • Each submission must be assigned to at least one conference track.

  • Submissions are accepted as TALK, POSTER & PITCH, DEMO POSTER & PITCH

 

Submission Process

  • Abstracts must be submitted via the HMC Conference 2026 submission portal (login via DFN-AAI
    (Single Sign-On/Shibboleth) or via individual accounts). Submissions by e-mail will not be accepted.

  • Deadline: 23st January 2026, 23:59 CEST

  • During submission you can choose your preferred contribution format, however we cannot guarantee that your choice can be accommodated in the final program. 
  • The Scientific Programme Committee will review all abstracts and assign accepted contributions to TALK, POSTER, or DEMO sessions. If necessary, submissions may be reallocated to another format.

  • Authors will be notified of acceptance and session details by mid February 2026.

 

Presentation Requirements

  • Talks: ~10 min presentation + 2 min Q&A. Slides in PPTX or PDF format. More details will follow

  • Posters: A0 portrait, printed (no on-site printing available). Optional 1-min pitch during the plenary session. More details will follow.

  • Demos: Same as Poster. Power and Wi-Fi provided. Optional 1-min pitch during the plenary session. More details will follow

 

Attendance in person is required for all presenters.
