Course content

The future of the world of work is changing more than ever, and these challenging times often make career/future planning less predictable. Opportunities for researchers are wide ranging in terms of sector; trends are demonstrating that more and more researchers are seeking roles outside of academia.

Whether you see your future inside or outside of academia, what do you need to make good decisions about your future and your career? And are you taking responsibility for making those decisions?

This focused and interactive event will help to develop your thinking about your future and career: what is good for me and how can I get it?

Pragmatically, we'll consider:

  • Academic & Non-academic careers
  • How to make the best decision(s) for you?
  • Making the best of yourself - what you have to offer?
  • How do you market yourself in a targeted way?
  • Building your networks – who is on team you?

This workshop is useful if…

...you are a bit lost as to which next career step you should take.

...you do have some ideas about your next career step but do not know where or how to start the process.

...you debate with yourself if you should leave academia but hesitate to take the next step in the light of all the uncertainties attached to this decision

What former participants said about this course:

“We were given super useful tools and pathways to figure out our issues, that could be applied to many different situations. This course was very useful for future career planning.”

“I chose to go on this course because I felt uncertain about where I want to go moving forward, and what my motivation is for doing what I do. I think this course was really useful in helping me to identify my own personal patterns of thinking, what drives me and what holds me back.“

“I have left with a much better understanding of what I want from my own career, and a lot more confidence in going out and finding it. I now really feel like I have it in my power to work towards what I want.”
