Buddy Advanced Program – Mentoring for Postdocs at GEOMAR (Oct 2026 – Mar 2027)
The Buddy Advanced Program is a mentoring initiative specially designed for postdocs at GEOMAR. It offers postdocs the chance to learn from experienced colleagues and receive tailored support for your personal and professional development.
Who can participate?
Mentors: Experienced scientists (6+ years post-PhD), group leaders, professors, data scientists, science and project managers
Mentees: Postdocs seeking support and development
Program Duration:
The program runs over six months (typically October 2026 to March 2027, with flexibility to adjust to your needs) and includes four one-hour sessions, with the option to extend further by mutual agreement.
Workshops – A Great Way to Start:
We warmly invite you to attend the introductory workshops on 28 September 2026 with Dr. Steve Hutchinson. The workshops will be held jointly with the mentees and mentors of the Buddy Program and are optional for participants in the Buddy Advanced Program. However, attendance is strongly recommended, as it helps clarify expectations and ensures a smooth start to the mentoring process.

Registration:
Use the form below to register as a mentor or mentee and, if you wish, to sign up for the corresponding introductory workshop.
Matching Process:
If a sufficient number of mentees register, we will organize a speed-networking session to facilitate the matching process. Otherwise, mentors and mentees will be matched based on their stated preferences. In that case, each mentee will have the opportunity to meet with at least two potential mentors.
Once matched, participants will sign the mentoring agreement and can officially begin their mentoring relationship.
