Dumped marine munitions, including unexploded ordnance (UXO) from the First and Second World Wars, remain widespread across European seas and oceans worldwide. These legacy hazards pose risks to shipping, fishing, offshore infrastructure, public safety, and the marine environment.

The Symposium on Munitions in the Sea - Status and Perspectives on 16 September 2026 in Monaco will provide an overview of the current state of knowledge on munitions in the sea, including environmental impacts and emerging solutions for detection, recovery, and disposal. Participants will gain insights into ongoing research initiatives, the development of a shared knowledge hub, and future plans and priorities at the European level.

Join representatives from science, policy, industry, military research, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs and authorities to help shape future action and collaboration in this important field.
