Dumped marine munitions, including unexploded ordnance (UXO) from the First and Second World Wars, remain widespread across European seas and oceans worldwide. These legacy hazards pose risks to shipping, fishing, offshore infrastructure, public safety, and the marine environment.
The Workshop on Munition in the Sea – Mediterranean Sea and European Atlantic Ocean will bring together experts experts from science, policy, industry, military research, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs and authorities to discuss the current state of knowledge in the Mediterranean Sea and European Atlantic Ocean. Participants will explore potential solutions, address regulatory and governance challenges, and strengthen international cooperation on clearance and remediation strategies in support of the European Ocean Pact.
