A crucial topic for many postdocs, and one that sparks considerable debate, is the relevance of habilitation in today's academic landscape. With alternative paths to professorships, such as junior research groups and junior professorships, becoming increasingly common, the necessity of habilitation is often questioned.
To explore this issue, five panelists from the marine sciences, each with different career trajectories - some with habilitation and others without - will discuss its necessity and potential advantages for an academic career.
The event will begin with an overview by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, who will outline the requirements for habilitation; followed by an interactive discussion, providing postdoctoral and other early career researchers with a comprehensive understanding of habilitation's role in shaping academic careers.
The discussion will be followed by networking over food and drink.
