 ncrease of ocean alkalinity. Based on modelling experiments runs with the 
 Earth system model FOC\, we compare three different metrics to calculate t
 he CO2 uptake efficiency based on a) alkalinity and ocean carbon inventori
 es\, b) carbon fluxes through the ocean surface\, and c) changes to the gl
 obal atmospheric CO2 concentration\, highlighting challenges and benefits
